The Rainmakers second album, released in 1987, showed the band stretching out from the rootsy sound of their first album, to a broader musical and emotional vocabulary. While tracks like "Snakedance", "The Wages of Sin", and "One More Summer" still rock and joke with the best of them, the songs "Small Circles" and "No Romance" showed that the boys could address heartbreak in their own unique way. Again produced by Terry Manning at Ardent Studios in Memphis, the band's powerhouse guitar sound is filled out with some synth, piano, and sax. (Hmmm - maybe they should have left a good thing alone.) The climactic track "I Talk With My Hands" even flirts with an experimental extended dance mix. Very cool here on this re- issue are the (count 'em) EIGHT bonus tracks. Two are from the original Memphis sessions, an acoustic version of "Small Circles", and five unreleased songs from the demo sessions for the album. 8- page lyrics booklet with some photos not on the original release.
